How to manage storage space on your PS4

Learn how to manage your PlayStation®4 storage space and saved game data using PS Plus online storage, PS4 system storage, or a USB storage device.

To manage your data stored on the PS4, go to Settings > Management of the data stored by the application.

If you want to access the data of an application stored in the online storage of PlayStation Plus, highlight the application in the content area or yours Library, press the OPTIONS button, then select Upload download out.

How can I make space on my PS4 to install a new game?

There are several methods of freeing up space when installing a new game. If you want to install the game on the PS4's system memory, you may need to delete a few applications. But don't worry, you can still access deleted games: you can always remove applications from your Library download again.

  1. Mark the application you want to delete in the content area or in the Library.
  2. Press the OPTIONS button> Clear.

If you don't want to delete games from PS4 system memory, you can download the new game using an external hard drive or upgrade the existing PS4 hard drive. See the instructions below for more information.

How do I delete saved data from my PS4?

  1. Go to Settings > Management of the data stored by the application.
  2. Choose either System memory, Online storage or USB storage > Clear out.
  3. Select a game and tick or select all the data you want to delete select all out.
  4. Choose Clear and subsequently OK to confirm the deletion.

How do I copy saved PS4 data to a USB storage device?

You can save saved data to a USB storage device connected to your PS4 system. Saved data that you copy can be used as a backup. You can also copy saved data from the USB storage device to another PS4 and continue playing. Please note that you have to be signed in to PlayStation Network to use this feature.

Copy from PS4 system storage to USB
  1. Connect a USB storage device to your PS4 system.
  2. Go to Settings > Management of the data stored by the application > Saved data in system memory > Copy to USB storage device out.
  3. Choose a game.
  4. Place a check mark or select any data you want to copy select all and then Copy out.

If the file you want to copy already exists on the USB storage device, the message “Do you want to overwrite this saved data?” Will appear.

You can tell which version is the latest based on the date and time. Choose Yes if you want to replace the version on the USB storage device. Choose No to cancel copying.

  1. Go to Settings > Management of the data stored by the application > Saved data on USB storage device and choose Copy to system memory out.
  2. Select a game or application.
  3. Mark all saved data that you want to download with a check mark or select select all and subsequently Download out.

If the file you want to copy already exists on the USB storage device, the message “Do you want to overwrite this saved data?” Will appear.

You can tell which version is the latest based on the date and time. Choose Yes to replace the version in system memory, and Noto cancel the download.
