What should I stop thinking about?

Meditation think what

Meditation think what? Actually, meditation is about stop thinking. But there are several ways to get into this state, two main ways. The first would be to bring mind observation and then bring awareness into the moment you are not thinking. Second possibility, you consciously think of something positive, uplifting, for example a mantra, a light, a symbol or even a great person, a saint, philosophical concepts or the question “who am I?”. These uplifting thoughts eventually lead to the fact that you no longer think and have the experience of pure awareness that is beyond all thoughts. Then you have great joy and connection.

Meditation think what

Patanjali defines meditation as stopping thinking: Yoga Chitta Vritti Nirodhaha. Ultimately, yoga meditation consists of calming the mind. When you have stopped all thinking, then you rest in your true essence. So it's less about what should I think in meditation, but more about stopping thinking. But how does it go about stopping thinking?

Mind observation

There are different possibilities. One would be, you sit down quietly, you take a few deep breaths and then you watch the thoughts. Thoughts come, thoughts go, just be interested in what thoughts come and what thoughts go. Then, for a moment, keep focusing your [mind] on the moment between two thoughts or between two breaths. Often the easiest way to get into [thoughtlessness] is to pay attention to the moment between two breaths, that is, to that little pause between inhaling and exhaling. Here then the thinking stops for a moment. As you focus your mindfulness on it, this moment slowly becomes stronger. As this moment becomes stronger and longer, you keep feeling this moment without thinking.

Lifting Thoughts

Of course, a second way to deal with it would be to think of something uplifting. By letting your mind think of something uplifting, of something uplifting, of something joyful, of something full of light, and concentrating on it, the other thoughts disappear for the first time. When the mind is full of light, at some point it can also let go of these thoughts. Another possibility would be to introduce you to a master or a symbol of the divine. So anything you can imagine that is uplifting for you.

Om

Hence, when you ask meditation, what do you think? Then you can actually bring positive thoughts into the mind. For example, you could repeat a mantra like Om. Breathe in Om, breathe out Om. Om stands for the all-encompassing. Om stands for peace, joy. Om stands for the basic sound of the universe. By thinking about the mantra Om, you fill yourself with joy, with serenity, with connection with everything.

Light - Tratak Meditation

You could of course also think of a light. There is, for example, the Tratak meditation. You place a candle two to three meters in front of you, a little below eye level, so that you look slightly downwards. You look at the candle for a moment and feel the light from the candle. Then you close your eyes and you will likely see an afterimage of the candle flame or you may also see different colors and shapes and are just curious about what's coming.

Who am I?

The last possibility that I would like to present now would be to think about who I am, not in terms of what role do I have, not in terms of what body do I have, what name, what temperament, but who am I. This is, of course, a complex meditation where you work on thinking to finally come to the state of thoughtlessness.

So in summary, meditation, what do you think? Actually, meditation is about stop thinking. But there are several ways to get into this state, two main ways. The first would be to bring mind observation and then bring awareness into the moment you are not thinking. Second possibility, you consciously think of something positive, uplifting, for example a mantra, a light, a symbol or even a great person, a saint, philosophical concepts or the question “who am I?”.
