PwC launches Business Intelligence MOOC: Learn data analysis online

PwC has recently given anyone interested in learning the opportunity to participate in a range of new MOOCs (massive open online courses) the Basics about business intelligence analysis to learn.

In a Sequence of 4 MOOCs and a practical project systematically shows how data can be professionally evaluated, analyzed and presented. The tools for this are the programs that are widely used in practice Excel and PowerPoint.

The course series is currently only available in English. However, the contents show the current status of modern business intelligence. Anyone who deals with data analysis for business or wants to do so in the future will find it like this a good start - and optionally receives a Certificate from PwC.

We will briefly introduce you to the MOOCs.

First MOOC of the "Big Four" auditors from PwC

PricewaterhouseCoopers is well known one of the "Big Four" accounting firms and is active all over the world with a good 200,000 employees (almost 10,000 of them in Germany).

With the new video courses on data analysis, they want to train their own employees on the one hand, but also enable interested parties around the world to get started on the topic on the other. Like all MOOCs, the Course series from several video courses with various options for online interaction and with online tests of the knowledge you have learned. The 4 online courses and the online project are also offered as a package in a so-called "Specialization" on this topic ("Data Analysis and Presentation Skills: the PwC Approach"). To make the courses available, the world's largest MOOC platform Courserateamed up, on which hundreds of thousands of Germans are already learning online (see also our detailed Coursera profile).

And last but not least, Coursera is also relying on PwC as the content provider for this topic:

But what exactly do the MOOCs contain?

Step 1:Understand data

In the first MOOC in the series, you will receive one Introduction to the topic of data analysis. Here you will first be shown what role data actually plays in the business environment and what is meant by the buzzword "Big Data". Different types of data and the importance of analysis tools such as Excel give you an initial overview of the topic.

Steps 2 + 3:Analyze data correctly with Excel

You will find out in the following two MOOCs everything about data analysis with Excel. You will be taught various functions, formulas and analysis options in detail. With practical exercises you will learn to use Excel yourself.

Step 4: Present results professionally with PowerPoint

In the next MOOC you will then be shown how to analyze your data correctly presented with PowerPoint. Structure, design of the slides and storytelling during the presentation - all of this is the content of this online course.

Step 5:The practice project

At the end of the Specialization (i.e. the MOOC series) you will have the opportunity to do the apply the skills learned in a practical project. In a "Capstone Project" you analyze the data of a fictitious customer and present your results. In this way you can prove that you are now really fit in the field of business intelligence!

How to get a PwC certificate for the course

On the one hand you now have the Possibility of only selectively individual MOOCs to prove. For example, if you just want to improve your Excel skills, you simply choose the appropriate PwC courses. As with most MOOCs on the Coursera platform, you get the here too essential course content free of charge and only pay when you need a certificate to graduate.

If, on the other hand, you are interested in the overall package (i.e. all 4 MOOCs plus practical project) and you want a certificate for all courses, then you should get the entire specialization occupy. In this case the whole thing will cost you a little more than 300 EUR.

Whether you want to make this investment is of course a matter of individual taste - but you will at least get something for it (in addition to the learning content) meaningful certificate from PwC for this specialization. And you can then integrate this into your LinkedIn profile, for example, and thus credibly document your knowledge of business intelligence, also to employers ("What do the certificates bring?").

Plan enough time and receive real online training for it

As for all MOOCs, the following applies of course: If you are serious about your interest in learning, you should Do not underestimate the time required

Previous knowledge is not required, but a willingness to work over a few months to deal continuously with the learning content (see also our practical tips for MOOC participants).
