How can I start a convincing speech
Writing speeches: short explanation
Whether at the wedding party, at the company anniversary or in politics: There are countless occasions on which private individuals or representatives of organizations give a speech. The starting point for the spoken speech is the written manuscript. So that the speaker can reach and convince the audience with his words, this should consist of a well-written template.
The civil rights activist Martin Luther King and the politician Barack Obama have managed to anchor themselves in the mind with their speeches. This is not least due to two particularly memorable sentences: "I have a dream" and "Yes we can!".
The written presentation of a speech is crucial so that what the speaker is saying reaches the audience. In order for the speech to develop its full effect, there are a few things to consider when writing a speech.
In general, a good speech is tailored to the future audience and corresponds to the respective occasion. The beginning and the end are especially important to keep the audience engaged. First of all, ask yourself: What message should be conveyed? And remember to write how to speak.
Helpful tips for speech writing
Before writing, the speech writer should consider the following: What is the purpose of the speech? Who is the target group and what prior knowledge does the audience have? What is the aim of the speech? And what are the main arguments?
Ideally, the structure of a speech follows the famous common thread. First start by greeting the audience. The following entry is particularly important and should grab the attention of the listener. This can be achieved, for example, with a quote, a question or a few moving sentences on the occasion.
Because the audience cannot read the content of the speech, it is important to make statements that are as specific as possible. The content can be peppered with facts and figures, but it should not be too many and too complex information. There are also short summaries at the end of each section. Describe as concrete facts and everyday situations as possible so that the audience can understand them quickly and images can arise in their heads.
Language and style:
Use short sentences that the audience will remember. Avoid complicated sentence constructions that are nested within themselves. Write as actively as possible so as not to bore the audience. In order to make the speech varied, there are pictures, examples and quotations. Use simple language and avoid foreign words. If they cannot be avoided, explain them. Write how to speak.
Humor draws attention. Rhetorical stylistic devices (e.g. anaphor or alliteration) and figurative speaking (metaphors) bring a speech to life if they are used carefully. The end of the speech should be chosen with particular care and emphasize the actual goal of the speech. Because it is their climax and provides the last impression with which the audience can keep the speech in their head. For example, if you want to call for an action, the call for action should be mentioned again in the final sentence.
When the speech manuscript is finished, you should read it out loud again - and check whether the written text can also be understood as the spoken word.

A convincing speech must be well prepared and based on a well-written manuscript. When writing a speech, it is important to be aware of the goals of the speech and to always keep an eye on the target group and the occasion. Concrete formulations as well as simple and active language make a speech understandable. Examples, quotes, rhetorical stylistic devices and a pinch of humor ensure liveliness. It is also worth investing as much time as possible in the beginning and in the end.
