Notes on usage

With our baby name generator you can search for the most beautiful baby names according to various selection criteria. In addition to gender and linguistic origin (currently German, Albanian, Arabic, English, French, Italian, Polish, Russian, Scandinavian, Spanish and Turkish), it is possible to restrict the names you are looking for in terms of length and number of syllables.

The number of syllables is deliberately not the orthographic syllables from the written word separation, but rather phonetic or phonological syllables (spoken syllables) that are used in the spoken language.

In addition, the beginning and ending of the name can be restricted if desired. This can be a single letter or a sequence of letters, e.g. B. "Yes" at the beginning or "lia" as the ending.

Please note, however, that too many filter criteria can mean that you will receive fewer or no name suggestions. In the opposite case, if there are few or no filter criteria, the suggested names are reduced to a maximum of 100 search hits by a random generator. Each new search can therefore also deliver new search hits for baby names.

First names: When does the registry office say no?

However, there are also limits to the choice of name. Because not all names are accepted by the registry offices. There is no clear set of rules for choosing a name in Germany, but there are general rules and regulations, as well as various court rulings.

For example, a first name cannot be offensive, hurtful, or ridiculous. A first name that could be detrimental to the child in life violates personal rights. Also (with justified exceptions) titles of nobility, brand names and city names are not permitted as first names.

The first name should be clearly female or male. If it is not clear from the first name whether the child is a girl or a boy, a middle name must be chosen that is clear in this regard.

Important to know: If a child is to have several first names, the number must not exceed 5 first names.

Incredible, but true: In Germany, first names such as Pumuckl, Snow White, Chocolate Cominza or Tarzan approved. Peppermint, Rumpelstiltskin, sputnik, Verleihnix and Woodstock. The parents' intentions in choosing such a name, however, can only be puzzled.

The name of the youngest daughter of the German actor Til Schweiger and the American entrepreneur Dana Schweiger is Emma Tiger Silent. This naming did not seem to be a problem in the USA. Thus, the name finally found acceptance in Germany thanks to the prominent pioneer.

Was less happy with her parents' choice of name Dandelion, the daughter of Keith Richards. So she changed her name and is now called Angela. Understandable, because translated this name means "dandelion" or "dandelion".
