The Birla Institute of Technology in Patna is an educational institute offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Patna, Bihar, India. It is an off-campus of the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi.


The Birla Institute of Technology on the Patna Campus was founded in 2006 on the initiative of the government. from Bihar. The institute was set up in public-private partnership (PPP) mode under the direction of BIT Mesra. The Prime Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone for the institute in December 2005. The institute started its academic program from the 2006 to 2007 session.

The institute's campus in Patna is located between Bihar Veterinary College and Jai Prakash Narayan Patna Airport. The campus is entirely residential and consists of academic rooms, staff accommodation, transit hostel, pharmacy, playground, gym, student activity center and dance room, yoga hall and an auditorium. In addition to the college, there is also a local police station for security reasons.

The campus is a residential area with accommodation for all students in dormitories on campus. The college offers a free transportation bus to its students. There are three boys 'and one girls' homes on campus. It also has an ATM. The college is also equipped with a central library with an online e-library system to provide greater benefit to students. There is a future plan for the further development of the college campus.

Students are admitted to engineering and architecture courses exclusively via JEE (Main). The advisory process is carried out by the parent institution BIT Mesra.

Technika is BIT-P's annual technical festival. Viola is an annual rock show organized during the Technika, where national and international rock bands such as Strings and Underground Authority have performed. The college also organizes an annual sports meeting and sports festival called " Prakrida "as well as cross-industry sports tournaments.


College students went to NASA and have won the Microsoft Imagine Cup for the past few years. The institute promotes coding culture among students and the people have represented the college in ACM ICPC-like events. Filmmaking is the students' favorite hobby. In September 2017, the Bihar Government's IT Ministry ran a 24-hour national hackathon on the BIT Patna campus.
