Biography of Eminem

Eminem was born Marshall Bruce Mathers III on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri, where he grew up under difficult circumstances. His drug addict mother is only 17 years old at the time of his birth and, according to the rapper, completely overwhelmed with a child.

It is his half-uncle Ronnie who brings the young Marshall to rap. Music becomes his haven and at the age of 14 he begins to write lyrics himself. As a white man in a music genre dominated by blacks, Marshall Mathers, who initially calls himself “MundM” as a rapper, has to prove himself again and again. In order to assert himself, he has to be better than his competition and above all stand out.

At the age of 15, Eminem met his future wife, Kimberly Ann Scott. In 1991, his half-uncle Ronnie shoots himself - an incident that upsets the aspiring rapper because Ronnie has been a role model and a substitute for his father.

Eminem's beginnings in the music business

Marshall Mathers is signed to the Detroit record label FBT Productions in 1992. At the beginning he is part of the rap crew "Bassmint Productions".

In 1995 the artist name "Eminem" was finally born, as Marshall fears that his previous artist name "M & M" could lead to legal problems.

When the rapper Proof founded a loose collective of rappers in 1996, Eminem becomes part of the group and creates his alter ego "Slim Shady" and takes them Slim Shady EP on.

As in early 1999 his first record Slim Shady LP appears, Eminem's music has finally reached tremendous impact. The album stayed in the US charts for 100 weeks and moved up to number 2, despite the sometimes violence-glorifying lyrics.

Eminem's great rise - and the fall

For Eminem, one commercial success follows another, which the artist pays at a high price. Drugs, alcohol and medication gradually take control of his life. From 2006 to 2008 the rapper took a musical break. His first therapy in 2005 was unsuccessful, followed by a suicide attempt at the end of 2007, which finally shook Eminem up and led him to successful withdrawal.

Eminem returns

The rapper has been musically active again since 2009 and, according to his own statement, gives the first concerts of his career where he is not under the influence of drugs. His seventh solo album Recovery (2010) not only represents a new musical direction for the rapper - it includes collaborations with music greats such as Rihanna and Pink - but also proposes new lyrical notes. On the album, Eminem distances himself from his previous albums Encore and Relapsethat arose when he was under the influence of drugs or was in therapy.

In the following years, Eminem mainly worked as a producer and feature guest. His ninth solo album was finally released in December 2017 revival, which includes teamwork with Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran. In 2018 Eminem released his tenth album unannounced Kamikaze.

Eminem private

Eminem meets his future wife Kim when his mother Debbie takes the runaway into their home. Several years later, Eminem and Kim begin an on / off relationship. On December 25, 1995, Eminem and Kim's daughter Haillie Jade was born. A little later, the couple adopted Kim's niece Alaina after her parents were killed in an accident. In 2003, Eminem also took over custody of Kim's second daughter Whitney, whose biological father he is not.

His children give strength to Eminem; they also often appear in his songs, for example in "Mockinbird", "Haillie's Song" or "When I'm Gone". The relationship with Kimberly Scott is less harmonious. Eminem and Kim marry twice and divorce twice. Eminem processes the arguments between the couple in - for the most part very violent - songs. On the track “Kim”, for example, a quarrel between Eminem and Kim is staged, at the end of the song the rapper cuts his wife's throat with the words “Bleed, bitch, bleed”. Kimberly Scott is suing Eminem for $ 10 million in compensation for defamation.
